Step 4 --- Filling leaves with satin stitch

The stitches to be used in this project are: satin stitch, long and short stitch, and stem stitch.

Now let us see how to fill a part of a leaf using satin stitch. Satin stitch is a lovely stitch which gives a smooth, shiny, and glossy effect to a design. I am going to use Anchor thread no. 309 for this. You can find out the equivalent DMC threads through the conversion charts available on the following web sites.

Ongoing projects

Here are some pictures of my ongoing projects:

Step 3 --- Drawing the guidelines

Hi everyone,

Since I was busy with two very big projects at a time I could not update my blog. Here is step 3. For beginners in embroidery it is always advisable to draw the guidelines before you start filling an area with satin stitch, for example, leaf, petal, etc. This will help you place your stitches evenly toward a particular direction. Look at the following image to know how to draw the guidelines.

Free project

I would like to share my knowledge of how to embroider a rose using long and short stitch and satin stitch. I have given the pattern below which I am currently using for my pillow cover project.

Step 1: Transfer the pattern using a tracing paper or carbon paper or any other method you are familiar with.

I transferred the design using carbon paper. The image below shows the transferred pattern on the pillow cover.

We shall see Step 2 --- "Choosing the colors for the pattern" tomorrow.

Current projects

Currently I am doing two embroidery projects, one which involves a lot of embellishments, and the other a pillow cover with rose border on the sides and monogram "s" with flowers around it at the center. Here are the pictures:
